Telangana Human Rights Commission visits Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Human Rights Commission (TSHRC) team visited Gandhi Hospital in Secunderabad on Thursday under Section 12(c) of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993. The visit formed part of the Commission’s routine duties to review healthcare facilities.

Commission Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther led the team, along with Judicial Member Shivadi Praveen and Non-Judicial Member Dr. B. Kishore (IAS, Retd.). Meanwhile, Secretary and CEO A.N. Kanthi Wesley (IAS), Deputy Registrar and PS to the Chairperson B.V.A. Vijay, PRO and Administrative Officer (FAC) P. Srinivas Rao, and DSP Ramulu also joined the inspection.

At the hospital entrance, Superintendent Dr. Vani, senior doctors, Chilkalguda SHO, and ACPs welcomed the Commission members. The team first checked the emergency ward and spoke directly with duty doctors about patient care, service delivery, and infrastructure needs. Moreover, they discussed possible improvements to help ensure better treatment for patients.

Later, the members visited the geriatric, pediatric, and pediatric surgery departments. In addition, they examined medical records, interacted with hospital staff, and reviewed the overall condition of the wards. Consequently, they appreciated the hospital’s effort to maintain proper healthcare standards and hygiene.

Commission praises children’s surgery department for its good work

During a press meeting in the Superintendent’s office, Chairperson Dr. Justice Shameem Akther explained the purpose of the visit. He said the Commission carries out such inspections to ensure that human rights are protected in public hospitals. Furthermore, he listed the departments visited and the observations made during the inspection. He praised the children’s surgery department for its dedicated service to young patients and encouraged the doctors to continue their good work.

Dr. Akther also thanked the hospital staff for their teamwork and urged them to keep improving services. Besides, he said the Commission would continue to inspect major hospitals across Telangana to make sure all healthcare institutions follow human rights standards. Finally, he stressed that patient dignity and care must remain top priorities in every government hospital.
