Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka has declared that Telangana’s future lies in green energy, and the state is determined to harness it through meticulous planning and massive investment.
Addressing reporters on Saturday after touring the Greenko Integrated Power Project at Pinnapuram in Kurnool district, Bhatti Vikramarka underscored the state’s commitment to renewable energy. He revealed that Telangana had already signed memorandums of understanding worth a staggering Rs. 1 lakh crore for green power projects.
Outlining the state’s ambitious energy roadmap, he said the government has rolled out the 2025 New Energy Policy, targeting 20,000 MW of green power capacity by 2029–30. The Deputy Chief Minister emphasised that as power consumption surges nationwide, Telangana is exploring every possible avenue to boost power generation and create a surplus.
“Electricity is the lifeblood of every industry,” he remarked. “If we can produce more, it fuels employment, drives economic growth, and increases the state’s GDP. It’s a cycle of progress.”
Highlighting the environmental stakes, he warned that continued reliance on coal-fired power would only hike costs and worsen pollution. “That’s why the world is pivoting towards renewables,” he added, pointing out that countries are diversifying their energy mix with solar, wind, thermal, pumped storage, floating solar, and hydrogen power.
He gave a nod to the ingenuity behind storing daytime solar power through pumped storage systems, ensuring a steady supply during peak evening hours.
Bhatti Vikramarka said he visited Pinnapuram at Greenko’s invitation to get a firsthand look at their integrated renewable power hub, which also exports electricity abroad. He lauded Greenko’s efforts in commissioning the project on time and noted that it’s the world’s first single-location site producing power from solar, wind, and pumped storage across a sprawling 4,000-acre campus.
During his visit, the Deputy Chief Minister conducted an aerial survey of the facility by helicopter, inspecting critical infrastructure such as the upper and lower reservoirs of the closed-loop pumped storage system, the powerhouse complex, and the state-of-the-art substation.
He also reviewed Greenko’s seamless integration of solar, wind, and hydro pumped storage, which boasts a 1,680 MW capacity with a four-hour cycle, twice a day. Senior officials and engineers from the company accompanied him during the inspection.
Among those present were Principal Secretary for Energy Sandeep Kumar Sultania, TRANSCO CMD Krishna Bhaskar, GENCO CMD Harish, Devarakadra MLA Madhusudhan Reddy, and Wanaparthy MLA Megha Reddy.
