Telangana Praja Palana Dinotsavam to mark Hyderabad merger
The government decided in 2024 to celebrate September 17 as Praja Palana Dinotsavam. The date marks Hyderabad’s merger with the Indian Union in 1948. Therefore, all government offices, municipal bodies, and gram panchayats will hoist the national flag.
Ministers and senior leaders will attend ceremonies across the districts. However, the Hyderabad event will remain the central function. At that event, the Chief Minister will preside and unfurl the tricolour.
Previously, the BRS government marked September 17 as National Integration Day. Meanwhile, the Union government under BJP declared it Telangana Liberation Day. In contrast, the present Congress government has renamed the day as Praja Palana Dinotsavam, stressing governance and citizen participation.
