Telangana must become a global growth engine: Bhatti

Hyderabad: Telangana must grow into a global economic engine, and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) will play a central role in that effort, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka said on Friday.

JNTU’s legacy and role in Telangana Rising 2047

Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebrations of JNTU in Kukatpally, he said education, skills and employment form the core of the Telangana Rising 2047 vision. He added that the university’s six-decade journey has produced lakhs of engineers, innovators and administrators. Moreover, he said the celebration reflects the institution’s longstanding contribution to the state and the country.

Bhatti said JNTU’s legacy mirrors the ideals of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who believed India’s progress depended on science and youthful energy. He recalled the university’s evolution from Nagarjunasagar Engineering College in 1965 to becoming India’s first technological university in 1972. Since then, JNTU has steadily grown into a globally recognised institution.

JNTU hailed as a national asset

He described JNTU as a national asset that contributed to India’s growth from Masab Tank to Silicon Valley, and from ISRO to companies such as Google and Tesla. Furthermore, he added a lighter remark that some say a stone in Silicon Valley may land on an IITian or a JNTU alumnus.

Strong partner in Telangana’s development

Bhatti said JNTU has supported Telangana through its transparent entrance exams and guidance to affiliated colleges. He noted that the university also strengthens the state’s innovation mission. With 215 affiliated colleges and 3.5 lakh students, its scale and influence remain significant.

Government Adviser K. Keshava Rao, JNTU Vice Chancellor Prof. Kishen Kumar Reddy, Higher Education Chairman Balakrishna Reddy, University Rector Vijay Kumar, Registrar K. Venkateswara Rao and other dignitaries attended the event.
