Hyderabad: Preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Telangana have reached a critical stage, with the Panchayat Raj Department issuing emergency instructions to all district panchayat officers (DPOs). District-level officials have been directed to inspect election-related materials and logistics at the mandal and village levels and submit detailed reports immediately.
Principal Secretary of Panchayat Raj has ordered that inspections be completed by Saturday and new supplies requisitioned where necessary. The department is working in anticipation of the State Election Commission releasing the poll schedule once legal clarity is received on BC reservations.
Following a Supreme Court directive, the State Election Commission has accelerated its readiness. This time, the elections will be held in two phases. The first phase will cover Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituency (MPTC) seats, followed by Sarpanch elections.
In contrast to the 2019 elections, which were held in three phases based on revenue divisions, the upcoming elections will be completed in just two rounds. Although political party symbols are not used in these polls, district authorities have begun preparations accordingly to align with the new plan.
