HYDERABAD: In a major welfare initiative, the Telangana government has released ₹348 crore to support food donors and charitable institutions across the state under the Anna Daan scheme. The funds aim to assist individuals and organisations that provide free meals to the public.
The decision, taken by the state cabinet under the leadership of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, is intended to encourage and strengthen the efforts of those working to feed the underprivileged. The government stated that Anna Daan is a noble social service that deserves robust support at the state level.
The allocated funds will be utilised to reinforce free meal services run by temples, gurdwaras, dargahs, NGOs, and other social welfare organisations. To ensure transparency, the government has announced that each beneficiary institution will undergo a full audit.
District collectors and relevant departments have been instructed to identify deserving and active organisations, approve their proposals, and release funds without delay. The move has been widely welcomed by social groups, religious institutions, and charitable bodies.
Chief Minister Reddy remarked that the initiative will not only promote a spirit of compassion and service but also strengthen social harmony and brotherhood across the state. The government will also launch a publicity campaign to promote the Anna Daan scheme and encourage greater public participation in the cause.
