Hyderabad: Telangana health officials on Tuesday issued a flu alert, warning of a likely rise in seasonal infections due to dropping night temperatures. The India Meteorological Department has forecast dry weather across the state, with minimum temperatures expected to fall 2–3°C below normal in some areas over the next week.
Seasonal flu spreads through tiny droplets released when infected people cough or sneeze. Common symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, body pain, and tiredness. Most people recover with rest and fluids, but health experts warned that certain groups could face serious complications.
Health department urges extra care for high-risk individuals
Director of Public Health Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak asked people at higher risk such as children under five, older adults, people with long-term illnesses, and those who are pregnant to seek medical help if they develop flu symptoms. He highlighted warning signs such as high fever, trouble breathing, blue lips, blood in spit, or unusual behaviour.
“All government hospitals have stocked key medicines and set aside special beds,” Dr. Nayak said. He also confirmed that the 108 Ambulance service is ready for emergencies.
Public asked to follow basic safety steps
Officials advised people to cover their mouths and noses while coughing or sneezing, wash hands often, avoid crowds, and stay home if feeling unwell. They also urged people to keep indoor spaces well-ventilated and maintain good sleep and nutrition.
The health department warned against self-medicating. Anyone with worsening symptoms should visit the nearest government clinic without delay.
