Telangana govt focuses on degree, PG syllabus overhaul

Hyderabad: The Telangana government stepped up efforts to overhaul the degree PG syllabus. The aim is to align higher education with industry needs and improve employment opportunities for students.

The focus on curriculum reforms came up at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education held in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by TGCHE chairman Balakista Reddy. Education Department Secretary Yogita Rana also attended.

Officials said the council decided to redesign the degree PG syllabus with inputs not only from academic experts but also from senior professors of premier institutions. These include the Indian Institute of Technology, the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology, the Defence Research and Development Organisation and central universities. Additionally, the objective was to ensure that students could secure employment while pursuing their courses.

Currently, such employment-oriented programmes are offered only in a limited number of colleges. The meeting noted the need to expand these courses to more government and private colleges across the state.
