Hyderabad: A couple from Gayathri Nagar in Nizamabad district died by suicide, allegedly driven to desperation by persistent harassment from moneylenders. The tragic incident has left the local community shaken, highlighting the mounting pressure faced by many borrowers in the region.
Srinivas and Mamata, the couple at the centre of this heart-wrenching case, were already grappling with multiple personal challenges. Their two sons had moved abroad to the Gulf countries in search of work, and their daughter had recently married. Friends and neighbours said the couple had been struggling with health issues and growing financial stress, with local moneylenders reportedly pressing them for repayments.
According to police sources, the couple was found hanging in their home, a grim end to a prolonged period of distress. Family members told investigators that the repeated harassment by moneylenders had pushed the couple to the brink.
Police have registered a case based on the family’s complaint and launched a thorough investigation. Officials said they would examine the allegations against the moneylenders to determine the extent of their involvement.
Locals have called for stricter action against unscrupulous lenders who exploit vulnerable families. Meanwhile, the community is reeling from the loss, underscoring the urgent need to address the challenges faced by families in financial distress.
