Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, IAS, received the Coffee Table Book, Geodetic Asset Registers, and the Geodetic Asset Map of Telangana from the Survey of India.
The presentation highlighted the Survey of India’s contribution to science, technology, and national development. It also showcased the role of geospatial data in governance and planning.
Meanwhile, B. C. Parida, Director, AP&T GD, Survey of India, formally presented the Coffee Table Book. Officer Surveyors H. K. Harish and P. Nityanandam were also present on the occasion.
The book, titled “A Journey from the Himalayas to Kanniyakumari and Every Island Beyond: Mapping the Growth Journey of the Nation, traces India’s cartographic journey. At the same time, it reflects the country’s shift toward digital-era mapping.
Survey of India showcases geodetic strength
According to officials, the publication highlights India’s strong scientific legacy. Moreover, it underlines the nation’s commitment to using geospatial knowledge for inclusive growth.
Officials explained that a Geodetic Reference Frame helps define accurate locations on Earth. Therefore, it forms the foundation for mapping and spatial planning.
The Geodetic Assets Register compiles national resources such as the Great Trigonometrical Survey stations started in 1802. In addition, it includes Ground Control Points, Standard Bench Marks, Gravity Reference Stations, Magnetic Repeat Stations, and Tidal Observatories.
These assets play a vital role in land administration and infrastructure planning. They also support major geospatial activities across the country.
Meanwhile, officials said the event aimed to spread awareness about the Survey of India’s capabilities. This effort aligns with the National Geospatial Policy, 2022.
Finally, they said the publication would help translate the vision of Viksit Bharat into reality. It would do so by strengthening the use of geospatial data in development planning.
