Telangana adopts G+1 model for urban Indiramma housing, says Ponguleti

Hyderabad: Telangana has shifted its focus to urban Indiramma housing after making significant progress in rural areas, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said on Wednesday.

Telangana focuses on urban Indiramma housing

The Minister held a review meeting with housing officials at the Secretariat. He stated that the government aimed to assist poor families residing in cramped urban areas in building permanent homes. Each house would cover at least 30 square metres under a G+1 design.

He explained that the state issued G.O. 69, allowing construction of 200 square feet on the ground floor and another 200 square feet on the first floor. Ponguleti said the move helps families with limited land in towns and cities. Many poor families still live in temporary huts without basic facilities, he added.

G+1 housing model to address space shortage

Ponguleti said the government would release ₹1 lakh after foundation and roof work, another ₹1 lakh after completing the ground floor, ₹2 lakh after first-floor construction, and a final ₹1 lakh once the house is complete.

He said no other state in India spends ₹5 lakh for each house for people with low income. “Our government is fulfilling its election promise by ensuring every eligible person owns an Indiramma home,” he stated.

The government sets design standards for Indiramma houses

Under the G+1 model, each house must include two rooms — one of 96 square feet and another of 70 square feet — along with a 35.5 square-foot kitchen. Every house will also have separate toilet and bathroom facilities.

All houses must use RCC slab roofing. Builders must secure design approval from the Housing Department’s Deputy Executive Engineer before starting construction.

Urban Indiramma housing is a major priority

The Minister said urban housing poses a bigger challenge than rural housing. He directed officials to give top priority to city and town projects while maintaining construction speed in villages.
