HYDERABAD: The Supreme Court has once again issued a notice to Telangana Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar concerning the delay in addressing disqualification petitions against ten Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLAs who defected to the Congress party. This action follows a previous notice issued earlier this month, to which no response was received.
The disqualification petitions were initially filed on July 1, 2024, after the ten BRS legislators switched allegiance to the Congress. Despite the passage of several months, a decision on these petitions is still pending. The Supreme Court has expressed concern over the Speaker’s inaction and has sought a response before the next hearing scheduled for March 25, 2025.
During the previous hearing, the Supreme Court questioned the delay, emphasizing the importance of timely decisions in such matters to uphold democratic principles. The court’s intervention aims to expedite the process and ensure that the issue is resolved promptly.
