HYDERABAD: In a key development in the Andhra Pradesh liquor scam case, the Supreme Court has issued notices to the AP government, SIT, and senior IPS officer Mukesh Kumar Meena following a petition filed by Raj Kasireddy, who is under investigation in the case.
Kasireddy, who resides in Telangana, approached the apex court challenging the jurisdiction of the Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID) in serving him notices outside the state. He argued that the AP CID had no authority to issue summons to someone residing in another state, thereby violating due process.
Acting on his plea, the Supreme Court sought a response from the AP government and adjourned the matter to May 13 for further hearing.
Meanwhile, the SIT probing the liquor scam took Raj Kasireddy into custody today. The move comes after securing permission from the special court in Vijayawada. He will remain in police custody until May 8, during which time he will be interrogated daily between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The liquor scam, which has sparked political and legal ripples in Andhra Pradesh, involves allegations of corruption and irregularities in liquor procurement and distribution. Kasireddy’s legal challenge adds another dimension to the unfolding investigation.
