Hyderabad: Telangana Minister Sridhar Babu alleged land policy irregularities during the KCR government and criticised K.T. Rama Rao for what he called false remarks on the state’s industrial policy. While speaking at the Secretariat on Friday, he said KTR continued to mislead people even after repeated explanations. He also claimed that the Congress government had given clear details, yet BRS leaders kept spreading confusion.
The minister pointed out that the earlier BRS administration issued GOs allowing lease lands to shift into freehold plots. He explained that the new government planned only a simple impact-based fee, not a charge tied to land value. Moreover, he rejected KTR’s 30 per cent claim and said it had no basis. He added that KTR mixed freehold and lease rules, which created needless confusion for the public.
Sridhar Babu stressed that the current administration was only following GOs introduced earlier by the BRS regime. Because of this, he described KTR’s remarks on industrial policy as careless. He further accused BRS leaders of spreading rumours to attack the Congress. He said linking conversion fees to political motives showed a clear intent to mislead.
Minister links land policy irregularities to past land conversions
Sridhar Babu recalled that several land conversions took place during the BRS term. He alleged that BRS leaders were trying to block new investments by creating fear. Additionally, he explained that only those seeking industrial use needed to apply for conversion. He said the names KTR mentioned were not part of the government and urged him to present the MoUs if they existed.
The minister asked KTR to avoid claims without evidence. He argued that BRS leaders were reacting out of frustration after their loss in Jubilee Hills. He also said they were trying to slow Hyderabad’s growth. Furthermore, he explained that landowners could apply for conversion at any time and stated that the government expected revenue of ₹4,000 crore to ₹5,000 crore from the process.
Sridhar Babu says KTR misread rules related to land policy irregularities
Sridhar Babu said KTR spoke without understanding the difference between freehold and lease rules. He added that a useful discussion must rest on facts. Besides that, he accused KTR of pushing misinformation and reminded that the previous government introduced a grid policy for state lands that required review.
The minister said the BRS government collected conversion fees under the same policy. Therefore, he asked KTR to explain the financial scale behind those decisions. He added that the former regime made choices without creating panic. He also stressed that the present administration aimed to protect revenue and build investor trust.
BRS acting out of frustration, says minister
Sridhar Babu explained that industries seeking land would pay the required fee. He challenged BRS leaders to provide proof of any alleged deals and promised government action if evidence surfaced. Moreover, he said the party’s comments showed frustration after its electoral defeat.
He stated that the Congress government aimed to bring investment and jobs to Telangana. Additionally, he accused BRS leaders of trying to block Hyderabad’s rise as a global city. He said the administration remained focused on clean rules, fair systems and steady growth.
