Hyderabad: Telangana Industries and IT Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu on Monday paid rich tributes to legendary playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, calling him an “eternal voice” in Indian cinema and a timeless icon in the music world.
Unveiling a bronze statue of the singer at Ravindra Bharathi along with former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu, Sridhar Babu said SPB’s legacy transcends generations and languages. “He sang over 40,000 songs in 14 Indian languages, proving that music knows no boundaries,” the minister noted.

He praised SPB as a maestro who ruled the world of melody and emotion. “His voice still stirs every Telugu heart as if it were freshly recorded,” Sridhar Babu said.
Highlighting SPB’s multifaceted contributions, the minister said the late singer was not only a world-class vocalist but also a gifted actor, composer, and dubbing artist. “Only SPB could sing so perfectly that it felt as though the actor on screen was singing,” he added.
The minister described the statue as more than just a tribute. “This sculpture is a symbol of musical excellence, humility, and discipline,” he said. He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting the arts and artists.
The event saw participation from former Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, SPB’s son SP Charan, veteran actor Subhalekha Sudhakar, and many others from the cultural and entertainment sectors.
