Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Prisons Soumya Mishra on Monday introduced three digital upgrades at Jail Bhavan, aimed at improving transparency, governance, and public services in the prison department. Soumya Mishra emphasized the importance of these upgrades for enhancing operational efficiency.
The reforms include a biometric attendance system, the Swagatham digital visitors portal, and a modern Visitors’ Lounge. These measures aim to simplify internal operations and offer better access for citizens.
New systems improve accountability and visitor convenience
Mishra said the biometric system promotes punctuality and accountability by tracking attendance through technology. The Swagatham portal provides a digital interface for citizens to book structured appointments with prison officials, replacing ad hoc visits. Soumya Mishra noted that this system would streamline visitor interactions significantly.
The Visitors’ Lounge, launched alongside the tech upgrades, offers a clean and comfortable space for those visiting the facility. Mishra said this reflects a growing focus on citizen-friendly service in the department. According to Soumya Mishra, these initiatives highlight a commitment to public service.
She praised officers and staff for their work in rolling out the new systems and said she trusts they will use them responsibly and effectively.
Top prison officials who attended the event included IGs Y. Rajesh and N. Murali Babu, DIGs D. Srinivas and M. Sampath, Administrative Officer Mohd. Yousuf, and other staff.
