Hyderabad: A youth sustained serious injuries after a smartphone exploded in his trouser pocket while he was walking in the Attapur area under Rajendranagar limits. The incident occurred on Saturday and triggered panic among locals.
The victim, identified as Srinivas, a house painter by profession, was using a smartphone manufactured by Vivo. According to eyewitnesses, the phone suddenly exploded in his pant pocket, causing flames and intense heat. Srinivas suffered burns to his thigh and leg as a result.
Alert locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he received immediate treatment. Doctors treating him said his condition is stable and there’s no cause for alarm
According to family members, Srinivas had been using the Vivo smartphone regularly without any prior trouble. It’s still unclear what triggered the explosion—whether it stemmed from a manufacturing flaw, a battery malfunction, or some external factor.
No formal complaint has been registered yet, but police are expected to look into the incident. The case has drawn attention to smartphone safety and battery integrity.
