SIO Telangana launches ‘Youth Issues Campaign’ on mental health and sexual ethics

Hyderabad: The Students Islamic Organisation (SIO) Telangana has launched a month-long Youth Issues Campaign to raise awareness about mental health and sexual ethics. The campaign, themed “Haya (Modesty) is Life — Meaning, Morality & Tranquility,” will run from October 12 to November 10, 2025.

The initiative, part of a nationwide drive, aims to tackle social, emotional, and mental health challenges facing young people. Moreover, it promotes modesty, self-awareness, and responsible digital behaviour among students.

SIO stresses mental health and digital ethics

SIO Telangana State President Mohd Faraz Ahmed said social media and entertainment often glorify lust, violence, and disrespect for women. This, he added, weakens moral values and normalises indecency.

He shared worrying statistics. Indian youth spend over six hours daily on screens, while one in seven faces serious mental health problems. Furthermore, India ranks third globally in pornography consumption, with more than 70% of viewers under 34.

In Hyderabad, 57% of male college students regularly view pornographic content. Telangana recently reported 74 child pornography cases. Crimes against women rose to 23,678 in 2023, and cyber offences targeting women reached 120 cases.

Ahmed explained that excessive screen time causes emotional instability, poor academics, and broken relationships. In Telangana, 13.5% of rural teens exceed safe screen time. Meanwhile, over 90% of urban youth use smartphones mainly for social media, leading to disturbed sleep, poor focus, and moral confusion.

Counselling, workshops, and youth engagement planned

The campaign includes listening circles, counselling sessions, digital detox workshops, and seminars for parents and teachers. In addition, it will feature expert talks on emotional resilience, mental health, digital ethics, and sexual responsibility.

Furthermore, campus exhibitions will promote empathy, discipline, and self-control. Therefore, SIO urged parents, educators, and policymakers to support the campaign and help build a generation that values clarity, ethics, and emotional strength.

JIH Telangana President Mohammad Azharuddin said the campaign was essential, as many youth are falling into destructive digital habits that harm both mental health and morality. Consequently, he said, initiatives like this are crucial for rebuilding discipline and direction among students.
