Union representatives, including Vasireddy Seetharamaiah, Raj Kumar (Singareni Collieries Workers Union), INTUC’s Janak Prasad, and Officers’ Association President Lakshmipathi Goud, presented multiple issues. Balram responded to each with clarity and assurance.
Coal block strategy and production goals
Outlining future plans, Balram admitted that Singareni had missed earlier coal block auction opportunities. However, he expressed confidence in securing at least 10 profitable coal blocks in the upcoming auction of over 100.
He reaffirmed the company’s goal of reaching 100 million tonnes in annual coal production and urged full cooperation from unions. He stressed better work culture and optimal eight-hour shift utilisation as critical to company survival.
Cost cuts, safety, and expansion plans
To remain competitive, Singareni recently reduced coal prices by ₹1,000 and is focusing on improving quality. Balram also called for stronger safety measures and active union participation in accident prevention efforts.
He said Singareni has signed agreements with national research institutions to explore and produce critical minerals. The company plans to operate in 10 Indian states and five countries, including Chile, Argentina, and Australia.
Green energy initiatives and new ventures
Balram revealed that Singareni has successfully produced methanol from CO2 at its thermal power plant and is now entering the green hydrogen sector. A 500 MW pumped storage plant is in development, along with a 2,400 MW thermal power plant in Odisha expected to generate ₹1,500 crore in annual profit.
