Seven-year-old dies after mother allegedly throws her from building

Hyderabad: A seven-year-old girl died after her mother allegedly threw her from the third floor of a residential building in Vasanthapuri Colony under the limits of the Malkajgiri police station on Tuesday, shocking residents in the area.

According to police, the accused woman, identified as Monalisa, allegedly pushed her daughter Sharon Mary from the building. As a result, the child suffered severe injuries in the fall.

Immediately after the incident, family members and local residents rushed the injured girl to Gandhi Hospital. However, doctors declared her dead while she was undergoing treatment.

Soon after, police received information about the incident and rushed to the spot. Subsequently, officers took Monalisa into custody and registered a case against her.

Mother held after child’s death in Malkajgiri

During the preliminary investigation, police learnt that the woman allegedly acted under a blind belief that God would bring the child back to life. Accordingly, officials said this belief appeared to be the motive behind the act.

Meanwhile, the incident triggered panic and grief in the locality. As the news spread, family members and neighbours broke down.

At present, police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Additionally, officials are assessing the mental condition of the accused and recording statements from witnesses.

The investigation is ongoing.
