Seethakka approves 18 new adoption centres, 2 child care homes in Telangana

Hyderabad: Minister for Women and Child Welfare Seethakka on Friday approved proposals for 18 additional Special Adoption Centres and two new child care homes in Telangana, bringing the total number of adoption centres in the state to 35. The move awaits final authorisation from Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

The expansion, according to Seethakka, is aimed at safeguarding abandoned and orphaned children and strengthening legal adoption practices. She said the state government was committed to preventing unauthorised adoptions and child trafficking, and ensuring institutional care for those in need.

Currently, Telangana operates 17 adoption centres across 15 districts. With the new approval, the state-wide total will rise significantly. The plan also includes two additional Children’s Homes to accommodate and protect homeless minors.

The Union government has sanctioned the project, which is projected to cost Rs. 5.44 crore annually. Of this, Rs. 3.26 crore will come from central funds, while Rs. 2.17 crore will be covered by the state. A total of 228 outsourced personnel will be deployed across the new facilities.

Seethakka said the new adoption centres will help bring transparency to the process and improve support systems for vulnerable children. She reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance policy on illegal child transactions and stressed the need for systemic solutions.
