Secunderabad railway station redevelopment reaches 71% completion

Hyderabad: Secunderabad railway station redevelopment has reached 71 per cent completion. Officials expect the Rs 714.73 crore project to finish by March next year. South Central Railway has accelerated construction to turn the station into a modern transport hub with advanced passenger facilities.

The government had initially targeted completion by the end of this year. However, officials expect the complex construction work to extend the deadline to March next year.

Secunderabad remains one of the country’s busiest railway junctions. Around 180 trains operate through the station every day. More than 1.5 lakh passengers use it daily. The redevelopment plan aims to meet future demand and handle rising passenger traffic.

The project includes iconic buildings on the northern and southern sides of the station. Workers are also constructing a two-level air concourse. The plan includes roof coverage across the platforms and foot overbridges with travelators at platforms 1 and 10.

The project also includes a multi-level car parking facility on the northern side. A skywalk will provide direct access between the railway station and the Metro station.

Secunderabad railway station works enter final stages

Construction teams are working on the remaining 29 per cent of the project. They are building the main station structures on both sides, the northern multi-level parking facility and its basement. Work on the air concourse is also progressing.

Several other components have reached their final stages. These include the Hyderabad-end foot overbridge and platform roof coverage. Workers are nearing completion of the travelator-equipped bridges at platforms 1 and 10. They are also progressing with Metro skywalk connectivity and modern platform flooring.

Union Minister and local MP G. Kishan Reddy expressed confidence that the upgraded station would become a major transport hub in Bhagyanagar. He said the project would offer passengers a world-class travel experience.

Workers have completed several key components. These include the new Railway Protection Force building and the foot overbridge on the Kazipet side.

The southern station building’s ground floor, which houses departure and arrival areas, is ready. Workers have also completed the southern basement and southern electrical substation.
