Section 144 imposed in Kamareddy after Congress BJP clash

Hyderabad: Section 144 in Kamareddy was imposed on Saturday after clashes erupted between Congress and BJP workers over allegations linked to Government Degree College and Arora lands.

Police detained several leaders and activists from both parties as tensions escalated in the town. Authorities also placed BJP MLA K Venkataramana Reddy under house arrest to prevent further confrontation.

The situation intensified after Venkataramana Reddy challenged senior Congress leader Mohammed Ali Shabbir and others to a public discussion at Saraswati Shishu Mandir at 10 am. The Congress accepted the challenge and announced its readiness for an open debate.

However, Congress workers attempted to lay siege to the MLA’s camp office. Police intervened and detained them. In response, BJP cadres also gathered and staged protests.

During the unrest, miscreants smashed the windows of a car and set the vehicle on fire. As a result, tension spread rapidly across the town.

Police forces dispersed both groups and increased deployment at sensitive locations. Heavy pickets were stationed around the MLA’s camp office and other key areas.

Appealing for calm, Venkataramana Reddy urged BJP workers not to assemble near Shishu Mandir. He said the allegations were personal and that he would address them through legal means. “These are allegations against my family. I will prove the truth. No party worker should interfere. I have given my word to the police,” he said.

Meanwhile, authorities continued to monitor the situation closely to prevent further escalation.
