Hyderabad: BJP Telangana president N. Ramchander Rao on Tuesday hailed the SC reservations verdict of the Supreme Court as a historic decision upholding constitutional principles.
In a statement, he said the SC reservations verdict upheld an earlier Andhra Pradesh High Court ruling. He described it as a “historic victory for the spirit of the Constitution.”
He said the SC reservations verdict reinforced that reservation benefits must reach genuine beneficiaries. According to him, it would curb misuse of Scheduled Caste status after religious conversion.
Rao alleged that such practices had denied rightful benefits to eligible Dalit communities. Therefore, he urged the State government to strictly implement the SC reservations verdict on the ground.
He said some individuals had converted to other religions while retaining SC certificates. As a result, they continued to claim reservation benefits.
“This has caused grave injustice to genuine Dalit children. The Apex court’s verdict will put an end to such irregularities and ensure justice for the truly eligible SC community,” he said.
SC reservations verdict and political response
Rao said the SC reservations verdict would correct long-standing irregularities in the system. He added that it would restore fairness in the distribution of reservation benefits.
He also criticised rival political parties over the issue. He said the SC reservations exposed attempts to encourage conversions for political gain.
Calling it a “strong slap in the face,” he said the judgment challenged those who created confusion around reservations for vote-bank politics.
Moreover, he said the SC reservations reaffirmed the BJP’s commitment to protecting the rights of marginalised sections. He added that the party would continue to support policies that ensured justice for genuine beneficiaries.
