Sarpanch elections see two wives file nominations for same seat

Hyderabad: The Sarpanch elections took an unusual turn in Siddipet district after two wives of one man filed nominations for the Jangapalli seat in Akbarpet-Bhumpalli mandal. The final day for filing nominations ended today, and both women remained in the contest. Because neither withdrew, the husband now faces confusion over whom to support.

The Sarpanch post would have gone unopposed if one candidate had stepped aside. Instead, the rivalry created fresh interest in the village. Election officials said the development drew attention as local polls moved into active campaigning.

Campaign picks up pace as Sarpanch elections intensify

Across the undivided district, village panchayat elections resembled Assembly-level contests. Several candidates promised strong efforts for local development if elected. Observers said the ruling party attempted to secure more positions by offering various assurances.

Festive scenes emerged in many villages as contestants began door-to-door outreach. Aspirants urged voters to back them and reorganised ward members into panels to strengthen support. Campaigns gathered speed with only one week left, and competitive canvassing turned several villages lively.
