Hyderabad: A fake voter ID controversy hit the Jubilee Hills byelections after a list featuring film stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Tamanna Bhatia, and Rakul Preet Singh went viral on social media. Officials quickly began a probe after images of the actresses appeared on fake voter IDs, creating shock and confusion among voters.
The issue emerged soon after BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) claimed that 43 votes were registered at one address in the constituency. The Election Commission had already clarified that claim. However, the latest incident has once again raised doubts about the accuracy of the voter rolls.
Officials explained that the viral IDs used genuine voter numbers but carried the actresses’ photos. Therefore, the authorities started a detailed investigation to find out who designed and circulated the cards.
Meanwhile, the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) of Jubilee Hills filed a complaint at the Madhura Nagar Police Station. He requested action against those responsible for creating and sharing the fake IDs online. Additionally, the Cybercrime Police began tracking the sources of the posts and collecting technical evidence.
Consequently, the Hyderabad Election Office warned that anyone spreading false or misleading election content will face strict legal action. Moreover, officials urged voters to check election information only through verified and official channels.
