AHMEDABAD: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of creating division among communities on the basis of caste and religion, likening the BJP-led government’s policies to a fresh attempt at national division.
Addressing the ongoing two-day Congress conference in Ahmedabad, Revanth Reddy highlighted Telangana’s successful implementation of a caste-based census as a model for inclusive governance. He said the Congress government in Telangana conducted the survey to ensure equal participation of all communities in the state’s revenue.
Revanth Reddy asserted that the caste census is crucial for understanding the true population distribution of different social groups, enabling targeted welfare measures. He stated that, based on the findings of the caste census, the state government increased reservations for Backward Classes (BCs).
The Chief Minister called on the Modi government to conduct a nationwide caste census, asserting that Telangana had fulfilled Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s promise in this regard.
During his address, Revanth Reddy also detailed various welfare schemes launched by the Congress government in Telangana. He said that within a few months of coming to power, the government waived agricultural loans for farmers, a major promise fulfilled swiftly.
Criticising the BJP, Reddy accused Prime Minister Modi and party leaders of promoting the ideology of Nathuram Godse and said the Modi government was working against the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. He declared that the BJP would never be allowed to gain power in Telangana.
Drawing a parallel with the freedom struggle, Reddy said that just as Indians drove out British colonial rulers, the day was not far when people would oust the BJP from power in the same spirit.
The session was also attended by Telangana ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy, P. Srinivas Reddy, T. Nageshwar Rao, Seethakka, Ponnam Prabhakar, and former MLA Sampath Kumar.
