Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Tuesday called for a Padma Shri honour for late poet and lyricist Andesri, describing him as the “voice of Telangana.” He also announced a government job for a family member and the establishment of an Andesri Memorial Park in his honour.

State honours for poet Andesri at Ghatkesar

Following the Chief Minister’s orders, Andesri’s final rites were held with full state honours near the MLA camp office in Ghatkesar. Ministers D. Sridhar Babu, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, Adluri Laxman Kumar, Jupally Krishna Rao, senior Congress leader V. Hanumantha Rao, and several literature enthusiasts attended the funeral.

After the ceremony, CM Revanth Reddy said Andesri’s death was both a personal loss and a cultural setback for Telangana.

Telangana anthem to feature in textbooks

Revanth Reddy said the government would include Andesri’s “Jaya Jayahe Telangana” in school textbooks as a mark of respect. The poet’s words, he added, had inspired thousands during the Telangana movement.

Government to preserve Andesri’s legacy

The Chief Minister announced that 20,000 copies of Andesri’s poetry collection “Nippula Vaagu” would be printed and distributed to public libraries across Telangana. “His poems will continue to inspire generations,” Revanth said.

He added that the government would soon develop Andesri Smrutivanam (Memorial Park) and provide a government job to one of his family members in recognition of his services.

Revanth urges Centre to confer Padma Shri

Revanth appealed to the Central Government to award the Padma Shri to Andesri for his contribution to literature. He requested Union ministers G. Kishan Reddy and Bandi Sanjay Kumar to support the proposal. “Both Centre and state must work together to honour Andesri’s legacy,” he said.
