HYDERABAD: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday inaugurated the Young India Police School at Manchirevula, Narsingi, marking a significant step in the state’s education and police training reforms. The initiative, part of the Congress government’s election manifesto, aims to elevate the standard of police training and establish a benchmark institution comparable to Sainik Schools.
In his address at the inaugural event, the Chief Minister described the Young India Police School as a vital institution for police personnel across Telangana. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the promises made during the election, stating that the school represents a key component of the larger “Young India” vision.
Referencing historical leaders, Revanth Reddy said that just as former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation for universities that shaped modern India, Telangana is now laying the groundwork for a new era in education and public service. “Only a few Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers are remembered by the people. Their visionary decisions left a lasting impact. I want to create such a legacy through the ‘Young India’ brand,” he said.
The Chief Minister pointed to iconic welfare and development initiatives by past leaders—NT Rama Rao’s ₹2 per kg rice scheme, Chandrababu Naidu’s IT revolution, and Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s popularity among farmers—and stated that he, too, has carved his identity through education and employment-oriented schemes under the Young India initiative.
He explained that the Young India brand, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s ideals, aims to prepare the state for a better future. “The future of the country lies in classrooms,” he said, emphasising the importance of nurturing talent from the ground up.
Revanth Reddy outlines the Telangana government’s ambitious plans:
- The establishment of Young India Skills University, chaired by renowned industrialist Anand Mahindra, to provide world-class technical training and job security to the youth.
- Efforts to make the skills university the best in India.
- The planned launch of Young India Sports University and Academy, with a focus on preparing athletes for the next Olympic Games.
- The construction of Young India Residential Schools on 25 acres in every Assembly constituency.
- Expressing concern over declining enrolments in government schools due to lack of primary admissions, the Chief Minister announced a major educational reform: the introduction of pre-schools in place of first grade to strengthen early childhood education.
Regarding the newly inaugurated police school, Revanth Reddy pledged to develop it as a national model and to match the standards of Sainik Schools. “The government is ready to provide substantial financial support to make this vision a reality. It is our collective responsibility to build this institution into a role model,” he said.
He called upon private companies to extend financial support to the school as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. The state government, he added, is setting up a corpus fund of ₹100 crore for the development of the police school and is prepared to grant all necessary permissions to facilitate its growth.
