Hyderabad: In a bold push to elevate academic standards in government schools, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Friday laid out a detailed plan aimed at transforming the education sector in Telangana, beginning with the launch of 571 new schools this academic year.
Chairing a review meeting with education officials at the Integrated Command Control Centre, the Chief Minister underlined that quality education must reach every child in the state, and that no expense would be spared to ensure infrastructure, teacher training, and learning resources meet those standards.
These new schools are slated for villages and towns with more than 20 children, part of a larger drive to reorganise and rationalise the state’s education system. “Our goal is not just access but excellence. Every student must receive structured, skill-based, and language-enriched education,” Revanth Reddy asserted.
He instructed the department to implement reforms that would introduce skill development from the high school level, helping students identify and pursue career paths aligned with their interests and talents. “Early exposure to skill-based education is vital if we want our children to thrive in a fast-changing world,” he said.
With Telangana’s rapid urbanisation in mind, the CM also directed the education department to coordinate with municipal bodies and HMDA to establish schools in earmarked public-use plots within municipal layouts.
To ensure optimal use of infrastructure and better student-teacher ratios, he ordered a rationalisation of SC, ST, BC, and minority-run educational institutions up to the intermediate level, aiming for adequate student strength in every school.
Revanth Reddy also noted the rising popularity of Gurukul schools, crediting their quality meals, uniforms, and textbooks. He instructed officials to study the feasibility of extending these same amenities to day scholars enrolled in Gurukuls.
Touching on the holistic development of students, the Chief Minister advocated for counselling sessions to help children understand their responsibilities to family and society. “We want to build responsible citizens, not just students. Mental resilience and civic values must be part of their education,” he said.
The high-level review was attended by CM’s advisor Vem Narender Reddy, state government advisor K. Keshav Rao, Special Secretary Ajit Reddy, CM’s Secretary Manik Raj, Education Secretary Yogita Rana, Technical Education Commissioner Sridevasena, and Director of School Education Narasimhareddy.
