Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, accusing him of failing to deliver a strong response to Pakistan following the Pahalgam incident and claiming that the Union government has shown weakness on matters of national security.
Speaking after paying floral tributes to the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at his statue near the Secretariat on his death anniversary, Revanth Reddy drew a sharp contrast between past and present leadership.
He recalled the resolute response of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stating that her firm stand against cross-border aggression showed India’s ability to defend itself without foreign mediation. “Indira Gandhi made it clear that India needs no third-party intervention. But today, it seems the current government is acting on the cues of Donald Trump,” he said.
The Chief Minister accused the BJP of using Rahul Gandhi as a scapegoat to mask its failures. “They are attacking Rahul Gandhi not out of political strength, but to deflect attention from their own incompetence,” he added.
Revanth Reddy also took aim at Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, accusing him of remaining silent when the nation needed solidarity. “Congress extended unconditional support to the Centre during the Pahalgam episode. Yet, instead of acknowledging it, Kishan Reddy is busy slamming Rahul Gandhi,” he said.
Responding to criticism over the installation of Rajiv Gandhi’s statue near the Secretariat, Revanth dismissed the objections as the handiwork of narrow-minded political forces. He reiterated that the Congress party honours a legacy built on national service and sacrifice.
