Rajya Sabha election schedule out for 37 seats

Hyderabad: The Election Commission of India announced the schedule for Rajya Sabha elections to 37 seats across 10 states and fixed March 16 for polling.

The Commission will issue the notification on February 26. Thereafter, candidates must file nominations by March 5. Officials will scrutinise the papers on March 6. Subsequently, candidates can withdraw nominations until March 9.

Authorities will conduct polling on March 16 from 9 am to 4 pm. Meanwhile, they will take up counting on the same day. Finally, the Commission will complete the entire election process by March 20.

The terms of 37 members will end in April. Therefore, the Commission will hold Rajya Sabha elections in Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Assam, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Bihar.

Rajya Sabha elections for two seats in Telangana

In Telangana, lawmakers will elect two members in the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. The terms of Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi and BRS leader K R Suresh Reddy will end on April 9. Consequently, legislators will vote for these seats on March 16.

Meanwhile, several Rajya Sabha seats from Andhra Pradesh will fall vacant in June. YSR Congress Party MPs Ayodhya Ramireddy, Parimal Nathwani and Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose will complete their terms. In addition, TDP member Sana Satish will also finish his tenure. The Commission will soon announce a separate schedule for those vacancies.
