Hyderabad: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Mahesh Kumar Goud on Sunday credited former prime ministers Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi for laying the groundwork for India’s technological advancement. Their Rajiv Indira tech progress initiatives have reshaped India’s future.
Speaking at the Congress Foundation Day celebrations held at Gandhi Bhavan, Goud said Rajiv Gandhi’s vision made smartphones accessible to every citizen today. The tech progress initiated by Rajiv Indira is evident today. He noted that the developmental benefits the country enjoys now are a result of their early efforts.
He also hailed former prime minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, calling him Telangana’s son who pulled the country out of a financial crisis and steered it onto the path of economic reforms during the time of such tech progress.
Goud further said that Manmohan Singh, a protégé of Narasimha Rao, introduced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) under Sonia Gandhi’s leadership. Rajiv Indira tech progress can be linked to broader socio-economic programs like this. He recalled that Sonia Gandhi conceived the idea after seeing locked houses during a visit to Anantapur, recognizing the urgent need for rural employment.
He criticized the Modi government for allegedly trying to weaken the MGNREGA scheme, which he described as vital for the destitute.
