Rain alert issued as Telugu states brace for stormy spell

Hyderabad: With the monsoon clouds building once again, farmers across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are bracing for yet another round of rough weather. Meteorologists have raised the flag for heavy rain, fierce winds, and lightning strikes over the next three days, a worrying forecast that has left communities on edge.

After last week’s downpour that left fields soaked and claimed several lives through lightning strikes, the new alert has heightened concerns, especially in rural pockets where the monsoon sets the pace for every farmer’s day.

Officials say gusts reaching 30-40 kilometres per hour could sweep through many districts. Telangana is expected to see moderate rain across 22 districts, while several regions in Andhra Pradesh are also bracing for heavy showers and thunderclaps that could catch the unwary off guard.

For farmers, the early arrival of the southwest monsoon had brought a welcome break, filling the air with the promise of a good crop season. Seedlings have already taken root in freshly tilled fields, and caterpillars have made their first appearance — a typical sign that the season is well underway.

But now, as skies darken once again, the mood in the countryside is shifting. Farmers, who had barely finished sowing, are being warned not to take shelter under trees during storms, a deadly mistake that has already cost lives this season.

In view of rain alert, the authorities have urged people to stay alert for weather updates and to avoid venturing into open fields during lightning strikes. For many, the rains bring both hope and hazard, and the next few days will test the resilience of every household.
