Hyderabad: Staff at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) discovered the body of a preterm male infant inside a manhole near the ortho block of the hospital’s old building, triggering panic.
The incident came to light when the drainage water failed to clear. Maintenance staff opened the manhole to check the obstruction and found the infant’s body inside.
Preliminary suspicion is that an unidentified pregnant woman who came to the hospital may have gone into premature labour while using the toilet. Police took custody of the remains and have begun an investigation.
CCTV footage from the hospital premises is being reviewed to identify the woman involved.
