President Murmu inaugurates PSC conference in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday inaugurated the two-day National Conference for the Chairpersons of Public Service Commissions in Hyderabad.

The Telangana Public Service Commission organised the event at Ramoji Film City. While addressing the gathering, President Murmu said Public Service Commissions must uphold equality of opportunity. She also said they should work towards equality of outcomes.

Moreover, President Murmu said honesty and integrity must receive top priority in civil service recruitment. She further noted that the Constitution devoted a separate part to Services and Public Service Commissions. Therefore, she said, the framers underlined their importance at Union and State levels.

Public Service Commissions and governance reforms

Referring to constitutional ideals, President Murmu said Public Service Commissions act as change agents. Consequently, she said, they promote social, economic and political justice. She also stressed that civil servants form the “permanent executive” of governance.

However, President Murmu said integrity, sensitivity and competence remain vital for effective administration. While training can address skill gaps, she said lack of integrity is non-negotiable. Therefore, she warned, it can create serious governance challenges.

Further, she urged young civil service aspirants to serve marginalised and vulnerable sections. At the same time, she called for greater gender sensitivity. She said women’s needs and aspirations deserve special attention.

Meanwhile, referring to India’s economic progress, President Murmu said the country aims to become the third largest economy. She added that India is working towards the goal of ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047. Consequently, she expressed confidence in Public Service Commissions building a future-ready civil service.

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma attended the event. Similarly, Panchayat Raj Minister Dr Danasari Anasuya Seethakka was present. UPSC Chairman Dr Ajay Kumar and TSPSC Chairman Burra Venkatesham, IAS (VR), also attended.
