Hyderabad: President Droupadi Murmu concluded her annual winter sojourn at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Secunderabad on Monday, marking the end of a week of official engagements in Telangana.
She departed from Hakimpet Air Force Station, where she was seen off by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, Minister Seethakka, Government Advisor Harkara Venugopal Rao, Chief Secretary Ramakrishna Rao, and other top officials.
Key engagements during the visit
During her stay, the President inaugurated the National Conference of Chairpersons of State Public Service Commissions. She stressed the importance of transparency and excellence in administration. At the Brahma Kumaris’ “Timeless Wisdom of Bharat” conference, she spoke on India’s spiritual heritage as a means to global peace.
Continuing tradition, she hosted an “At Home” reception for state dignitaries and local leaders on Sunday. She also reviewed the heritage conservation work at Rashtrapati Nilayam, including its 165-year-old structure, restored stepwells, and the newly developed Knowledge Gallery.
Significance of the annual retreat
The President’s winter sojourn is part of a long-standing tradition that symbolises the Union government’s engagement with southern states. It enables the President to function from outside the national capital while maintaining ceremonial and administrative continuity.
