Ponnam Prabhakar orders probe into Chevella bus accident, announces ₹7 lakh ex-gratia

Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar ordered an immediate inquiry into the Chevella bus accident near Mirzaguda in Rangareddy district. The Minister said this was not a time for politics and assured full government support for the victims’ families.

After visiting the injured at the Chevella government hospital, Ponnam described the tragedy as deeply painful. He said the government stood firmly with the victims and their families during this difficult time. Moreover, he added that the incident highlighted the need for better road safety.

Responding to criticism that the accident resulted from delays in road widening, Ponnam said the inquiry would identify those responsible. “No matter who held power, this is not a moment for politics,” he stated. He further said that anyone trying to use this tragedy for political gain would only expose their insensitivity.

₹7 lakh ex-gratia for families and ₹2 lakh for the injured

Expressing sorrow, the Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. He announced ₹5 lakh compensation from the Telangana government and another ₹2 lakh from RTC for each victim’s family. Additionally, every injured person will receive ₹2 lakh in financial aid.

Ponnam Prabhakar also visited patients at Patnam Mahender Reddy Medical College and spoke directly with the doctors about their treatment. Furthermore, he discussed the ongoing post-mortems with hospital officials and reviewed relief coordination.

He said the government was maintaining close coordination with RTC, police, and medical teams. Continuous monitoring of the injured was underway to ensure they received the best possible care.
