Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar cast his vote at Navabharat High School in Husnabad on Wednesday during the municipal elections.
Arriving at the polling station with his family members, Ponnam Prabhakar exercised his franchise. After voting, he described the ballot as a powerful weapon in India’s democratic system.
Calling it a civic duty, he said every voter must utilise the right to vote on polling day. According to him, participation strengthens democracy at every level.
Referring to turnout patterns, the Minister noted that nearly 90 percent of voters participate in rural areas. However, he said awareness and participation remain comparatively lower in urban regions.
Ponnam Prabhakar casts vote, appeals to urban voters
Across 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations, he appealed to urban residents to exercise their franchise responsibly. He urged city voters to show the same commitment that rural voters demonstrate while electing representatives.
Emphasising discretion, he said urban voters should carefully choose capable public representatives and safeguard democratic values. Citing a common saying, he observed that in villages, people believe life without voting has little meaning.
Despite busy schedules in towns and cities, citizens must make time to vote, he added. Exercising the franchise in urban areas stands as a true mark of democracy, he said.
