Husnabad: Telangana Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Saturday led the distribution of Indira Mahila Shakti sarees to women at Mahalaxmi Gardens in Chiguru Mamidi, Husnabad constituency. The event underscored the state government’s intensified focus on women’s welfare.
Addressing the gathering, the minister said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s leadership had enabled the gifting of Sircilla-made sarees to every woman in Telangana aged 18 and above. He urged women’s groups to deliver these sarees personally, applying vermillion as a symbol of respect and unity.
In addition to the saree distribution, the minister handed out Kalyana Lakshmi cheques to nine beneficiaries. District Collector Pamela Satpathy, Additional Collector Ashwini Tanaji Wakade, Husnabad Market Committee Chairman Tirupati Reddy, and other officials were present.

Government initiatives focus on women’s advancement
The minister noted that the Congress-led administration had revived zero-interest loans for women after a decade. It was also rolling out income-generating schemes like solar power plants, petrol pumps, and buses for self-help groups.
He highlighted the ‘Praja Palana’ government’s commitment to resolving women’s issues and upgrading facilities at Amma Adarsha Pathashalas. “From procuring farmers’ produce to supplying school uniforms, the government is backing women across all sectors,” he said.
Citing recent household surveys, Prabhakar observed that education, rather than caste or wealth, was the key factor behind families achieving upward mobility. “Families who educated their children climbed the social and economic ladder,” he added.
He announced that 3,500 Indiramma houses had been sanctioned for the constituency, with an additional 3,500 to follow. Welfare measures also included free RTC bus travel for women, new ration cards, subsidised rice, 200 units of free electricity, and LPG cylinder supply.
Prabhakar called on women’s groups to take part actively by distributing sarees door-to-door. He also pledged funding for infrastructure if land was available for women’s organisations.
