Hyderabad: Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar on Sunday congratulated V Saritha on becoming the first woman bus driver appointed by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).
Saritha, from Sitya Thanda in Narayanapuram mandal of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, started duty at the Miryalaguda depot as driver of an electric bus supplied by JBM. She is now operating the Hyderabad–Miryalaguda route.
She had earlier worked for a decade with the Delhi Transport Corporation and had recently requested a transfer closer to her hometown. Acting on her appeal, the Minister directed RTC officials to accommodate her request, following which she was posted to Miryalaguda.
Ponnam said her appointment reflected the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment in public services. He highlighted the Mahalaxmi scheme providing free RTC travel for women and said the government’s goal was to economically empower one crore women.
Saritha thanked the Minister for enabling her return and said she looked forward to serving TGSRTC.
