HYDERABAD: A major haul of dry ganja was seized by the police during routine vehicle checks near NH-65 in Zaheerabad on Tuesday evening. The operation was led by Chiragpalli Sub-Inspector K. Rajender Reddy and his team, who intercepted a suspicious Tata Indigo CS car, bearing registration number AP 28 DE 3257, travelling from Hyderabad towards Karnataka.
Upon inspection at the Madgi T-road near Sahara Dhaba, police discovered 40 packets of dry ganja concealed in brown covers in the car’s boot. The total weight of the contraband was recorded at 79.75 kilograms, with an estimated market value of approximately ₹20 lakh.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as G. Thirumalesh, 25, a tractor driver from Govindpur village in Zaheerabad mandal of Sangareddy district. Police said that Thirumalesh was transporting the ganja on the instructions of a relative named Gundappa from Bidar, who promised him ₹50,000 for delivering the consignment to a person named Vinod in Bhalki, Karnataka.
The police seized the vehicle, the 40 packets of ganja, and a mobile phone from the accused. He has been taken into custody and will be remanded shortly. The Sangareddy district police have reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking in the region.
District SP Paritosh Pankaj IPS warned of strict action against anyone involved in the cultivation or distribution of narcotics. He urged citizens to report any such activities to the district S-Nab helpline at 8712656777, assuring that informants’ identities would be kept confidential.
SP Pankaj also praised the officers and personnel who played a key role in the successful operation.
