Hyderabad: For the first time in city history, Hyderabad Police presented the newly instituted ‘Extra Mile awards’ to 1,446 personnel for outstanding service beyond duty. Commissioner of Police V.C. Sajjanar, IPS, handed out the recognitions at a formal ceremony held on Sunday at the Telangana State Integrated Command Control Centre in Banjara Hills.
The initiative, described by Sajjanar as a milestone in the Commissionerate’s efforts to reward creativity, responsibility, and humanity in policing, marked a new chapter in the department’s internal recognition system. In addition to the Extra Mile honours, 1,175 officers received ‘Good Work Done’ rewards for exemplary performance in duty execution.
Addressing the awardees, the commissioner underscored that policing is not merely a job but a social responsibility. “Every act must reflect innovation and humanity,” he said. He stressed that success lies not just in task completion but in the confidence and comfort extended to victims.
A total of 271 officers were selected for the Extra Mile awards, specifically for service that went beyond routine responsibilities. Selections were based on exceptional performance during the second, third, and fourth quarters of the previous financial year.
Among the recipients were additional DCPs, ACPs, inspectors, sub-inspectors, ASIs, head constables, home guards, ministerial staff, and public prosecutors. Senior officers including Additional CP M. Srinivasulu, Joint CP North Range N. Shwetha, and DCPs S. Chaitanya Kumar, Shilpavalli, V. Aravind Babu, Lavanya Nayak Jadhav, and K. Venkata Lakshmi attended the event.
Sajjanar emphasized that the awards are more than ceremonial. “This is not just a reward — it’s recognition for dedication,” he stated. He announced that the program would continue with monthly zone-level rewards for best-performing SHOs, SIs, and constables.
“No matter how advanced the technology, it cannot replace the integrity and compassion of officers in the field,” he said, adding that the city’s law and order stability was the result of collective effort across ranks.
