PM Modi, leaders urge unity on 79th Independence Day

Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the 79th Independence Day on Friday by urging citizens to renew their commitment to national development and honour the ideals of the freedom struggle.

“Wishing everyone a very happy Independence Day,” Modi posted on X. “May this day inspire us to keep working even harder to realise the dreams of our freedom fighters and build a Viksit Bharat. Jai Hind!”

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his greetings. He paid tribute to those who fought for independence and to soldiers protecting the country’s unity and pride. “I pay homage to the freedom fighters who sacrificed everything in the Independence movement,” he wrote. He added that every citizen must contribute to building a self-reliant and globally respected India.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar extended “heartfelt greetings” to the nation. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Independence Day as a reminder of “courage, sacrifice and supreme selflessness.” He urged people to draw inspiration from these ideals and work towards a secure, prosperous Viksit Bharat.

BJP President and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda paid homage to revolutionaries and freedom fighters. According to him, under Modi’s leadership, India is progressing with “new energy, new confidence, and pride.” He called for united efforts to build a developed, self-reliant nation.

Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, meanwhile, emphasised the importance of constitutional values. She said the sacrifices of the freedom movement had given India a vibrant democracy. She pledged to protect justice, equality, and unity as fundamental principles of the Constitution.
