HYDERABAD: A public interest litigation has been filed in the Telangana High Court challenging the Waqf Amendment Act. The petition was submitted by the “ACT Public Welfare Foundation,” requesting that the implementation of the Waqf Amendment Act introduced by the Central Government be stayed.
The petition challenged several provisions of the amendment. While considering the matter, the High Court observed that hearings on petitions against the Waqf Amendment Act are already underway in the Supreme Court. Therefore, it stated that further action in this case would be taken only after the Supreme Court delivers its final judgement.
On this basis, the High Court adjourned the hearing on the petition until after the summer vacation.
