NH-65 expansion works to begin by January 2027, NHAI assures Telangana minister

Hyderabad: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) assured Telangana that NH-65 expansion works would begin by January 2027. NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav gave the assurance to Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy during a meeting in New Delhi on Monday, October 12.

The project involved expanding National Highway-65, which connected Hyderabad, Vijayawada and Machilipatnam. The authorities fixed November 11, 2026, as the deadline for submitting bids. NHAI Member (Projects) Vipnesh Sharma also attended the meeting, which focused on accelerating the highway expansion project.

NH-65 expansion works prioritised amid accident concerns

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy expressed concern over increasing vehicular traffic and frequent road accidents along the highway. He urged NHAI officials to accelerate the tendering process and ensure that construction began without further delay.

The minister emphasised that the highway served as a major transport corridor between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Moreover, thousands of commuters and motorists used the route daily.

He said the authorities needed to prioritise NH-65 expansion works to reduce accidents and improve road safety. The minister also stressed that widening the highway would help provide safer and more convenient travel for motorists using the busy corridor.

Telangana promises coordination for NH-65 expansion works

During the discussions, Komatireddy Venkat Reddy sought faster implementation of the project, particularly given the growing traffic and safety concerns. The NHAI chairman assured the minister that the expansion would commence by January 2027. Meanwhile, the November 11 bid submission deadline remained a key milestone in the tendering process.

Komatireddy Venkat Reddy assured NHAI officials that the Telangana Roads and Buildings Department would maintain close coordination with central agencies. He said the department would work with the agencies concerned to ensure that the highway expansion project progressed according to schedule.
