Hyderabad: MLA Naveen Yadav on Monday fulfilled his long-standing dream by attending the Telangana Assembly for the first time as a legislator. Having taken oath in November after winning the Jubilee Hills bypoll, he marked his official debut in the House during the winter session.
Naveen Yadav was elected on a Congress ticket in the high-profile bypoll following the death of sitting MLA Maganti Gopinath. He defeated Gopinath’s widow, BRS candidate Maganti Sunitha, with a record margin.
He began his political career in 2009 with the MIM, contesting as a corporator from the Yousufguda division but lost. In 2014, he ran as the MIM candidate from Jubilee Hills but again finished second with over 41,000 votes. He later contested unsuccessfully in other local and Assembly elections, including as an independent in 2018.
Naveen Yadav Assembly entry marks 16-year political milestone
Naveen joined the Congress in November 2023 in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. His victory in Jubilee Hills was seen as a major political turnaround, capping a decade-and-a-half of persistence.
He was seen occupying the seat allotted to him during the Monday session and was warmly received by colleagues. His presence in the House as a first-time MLA was noted as a moment of achievement following several electoral setbacks in the past.
