Hyderabad: Narayanpet district police have dismantled an interstate ganja trafficking ring, seizing 12.4 kilograms of cannabis and arresting ten suspects, Superintendent of Police Vinith Kumar announced on Monday. Officers also seized two motorcycles, ₹10,000 in cash, and ten mobile phones during the operation. The accused were later produced in court and sent to judicial remand.
At a press briefing held at the district police office, SP Vinith Kumar said the arrests came after a focused intelligence-led operation. He noted that the gang had run its network across state borders for nearly two years.
Interstate network linked to Maharashtra and Karnataka
The SP revealed that the gang procured ganja from Solapur in Maharashtra and Yadgir in Karnataka. They smuggled the contraband into Telangana in small packets and sold it locally. “This network operated with a clear supply chain and has been active for more than two years,” he said.
Police identified the accused as Sayyad Azar Ali, Mohammad Sufiyan Sha, and Kanigiri Vishal from Narayanpet; Umesh, Sonia, Lallan, and Sameer Sayyad from Yadgir; and Tukaram, Sameer, and Akshay from Solapur. Investigators confirmed that Sufiyan Sha was also involved in a previous narcotics case in Narayanpet.
Police tighten grip on regional drug trade
SP Vinith Kumar added that police teams are now tracking the group’s wider supply links. He warned that further arrests are likely as investigations continue. “We will break every link in this drug network,” he stated.
He also issued a warning to individuals engaged in drug trafficking, saying the police would apply strict legal measures. Senior officers, including DSP Nallapu Lingayya, Maktal CI Ram Lal, SI Naveed, and Task Force SI Purushottam, led the operation. The department plans more raids to disrupt any remaining parts of the supply chain.
