Municipal elections draw Kharge reaction after Congress sweep in Telangana

Hyderabad: The municipal elections in Telangana ended with Congress emerging as the largest party, prompting party president Mallikarjun Kharge to hail the verdict as a sign of growing public trust.

Authorities declared the municipal elections results on February 13 after polling took place on February 11. The outcome gave Congress a decisive edge across the state. Out of 116 municipalities, the party secured more than 64 and established clear dominance. Telangana has 2,582 wards in total. Congress won 1,347 wards, while the BRS secured 716. The BJP followed with 261 wards.

Congress also captured all seven municipal corporations in the state. However, 38 municipalities returned hung verdicts because no party secured a clear majority. Even so, party leaders expressed confidence about gaining control in several of these civic bodies.
