Hyderabad: Telangana students may get a four-day holiday stretch this week in districts where the municipal election is scheduled, as polling and counting activities lead to temporary school closures.
Polling for the municipal election will take place on February 11, which falls on a Wednesday. Officials have already instructed authorities to declare holidays in polling areas. Since schools and public buildings will serve as polling stations, educational institutions in those municipalities will remain closed on that day.
The holiday sequence may extend further in the same districts. Election authorities will take up the municipal election vote counting on February 13, a Friday. Officials said schools and offices used for counting will also remain closed that day. With February 14 being the second Saturday and February 15 a Sunday, students in affected districts could get four consecutive holidays.
Wine shops to remain shut during the municipal election process
Meanwhile, the state government announced restrictions linked to the municipal election. Campaigning will end at 5 pm on Monday. After that, liquor shops will shut across all municipal areas.
Authorities said liquor outlets will remain closed from 5 pm until polling ends on February 11. In addition, officials ordered the closure of liquor shops and bars on February 13, the counting day. The Excise Department issued these instructions to maintain law and order during the municipal election process.
